Ambition

Overjoyed. That is what I am feeling right now. As I look back over my year and all that I have accomplished, I am simply amazed at what I have done. As you know, I’ve recently published my first novel, Every Woman Deserves an Accessory, and it feels amazing to be able to share my book with the world and see my work in print.
Last year, the idea of being a professional writer was just a thought that I had. Now, it’s fortunately become my reality.
During one of the ice breaker sessions last December for my professional development with TFA, one of my corp members asked me the question, “What would you like to accomplish in 2014?”
I replied, “I’d like to publish a book.”
“Wow…that’s ambitious,” she replied.
I asked her the same question about her goals for the new year and she told me that she wanted to attend graduate school at Brown, to that I replied, “That’s ambitious. But like my goal, it’s possible.”
Funny thing is that we both actually stuck with what we both said we wanted to accomplish and it came to pass.
She’s at Brown and I’m a published author.
When I reflect on all that has been done in 2014 and on each and every learning curve I’ve managed, I smile. Because when it was happening, there wasn’t much smiling going on. So you gotta smile as much as you can, when you can.
As I wrap up 2015, I have a clear idea of a few personal things I would like to accomplish. 2015 is my year of love. My year of fun. My year of wealth building. I still have more professional goals that I will be working toward, like publishing another book. But I think my time to focus on things that are beyond material is now. Love. Fun. Wealth (yeah it’s material but so what…IT’S MY MONEY AND I WANT IT NOW.)
